Here’s more evidence that Amazon may soon unveil its next-generation Kindle e-reader and Kindle Fire tablet devices: All day on Thursday, Amazon will offer flash discounts on various Kindle Fire devices and accessories.
Currently, Amazon is selling refurbished Kindle Fire HD tablets discounted about 30% from $ 169 (with 16GB of storage) and $ 199 (with 32GB of storage) to $ 119 and $ 149, respectively.
Later on Thursday, Amazon will also offer discounts on refurbished first-generation Kindle Fire tablets ($ 89), refurbished Kindle Fire HD 8.9 “devices ($ 249) and cases for each device. Amazon USB chargers, discounted from $ 20 to $ 5, went on sale earlier this morning.
Should you grab one of the discounted tablets or wait for the next editions – which will likely be unveiled next month? That’s up to you. Reports suggest that the next round of Kindle Fires will boast a higher-definition screen – 1920 x 1200 pixels instead of 1280 x 800 for the 7 “Kindle Fire HD, and 2560 x 1600 pixels instead of 1920 x 1200 for the 8.9″ HD version . This puts the latter more in line with Google’s Nexus 7 tablet.
The new Kindle Fires are also expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and run a later version of Android (4.22). The devices will face some tough competition: The next-generation iPad mini, which may feature a “retina” display, is rumored to launch in October.
