New Amazon Kindle Paperwhite to cost Rs 10999, up for pre-order - Firstpost

Following the price slash of its Kindle devices including the older Kindle Paperwhite , the company has now launched the sixth generation Kindle Paperwhite in India. The Paperwhite is now available for pre-order at Amazon.in and will start shipping from February 4, 2014. The new top-of-the-line Kindle Paperwhite is priced at Rs 10,999 and the new Kindle Paperwhite (Wi-Fi + 3G) is priced at Rs 13,999.

The 6th-gen Kindle Paperwhite comes with an advanced e-reader display that promises better contrast and reflectivity. The pages will be virtually indistinguishable from a physical book, says the company. The built-in light guides light toward the surface of the display so that users can read comfortably without eyestrain. The new-generation Kindle Paperwhite gets lighter at 206 grams and comes powered by a 25 percent faster processor for quicker page turns.

The company also promises 19 percent tighter touch grid that makes the Paperwhite respond even more accurately to the smallest touches. The Page Flip feature allows users to skim page-by-page, scan by chapter, or skip to the end of your book, all without losing your place. Users can also look up content using the built-in dictionary or on Wikipedia. Each time you look up a word in the dictionary, the vocabulary builder adds it to an easy-to-access list. It automatically backs up your Kindle books in the cloud and also tells you how much time it will take to finish a chapter or a book based on your previous reading speed.

Faster processor, lighter and new display technology

The new FreeTime feature lets users create personalised profiles for kids and give them access to titles from your collection of books. Children are rewarded with achievement badges that keep track of their personal reading accomplishments. Some other features include new in-line footnotes, no-glare display, eight weeks of battery life and over 450,000 titles that are exclusive to the Kindle Store.

In addition, you will have access to over 2 million books in the India Kindle Store. Amazon added a social touch this time, allowing users to share recommendations, highlighted sections and meaningful quotes with friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Starting February 4, the new Kindle Paperwhite will also be available offline as well in 250 retail outlets across India.
