Amazon hints at incoming products with Kindle Fire HD price cut - Inquirer

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablet PC

ONLINE RETAIL GIANT Amazon has slashed the price of its Kindle Fire HD tablet, following in the footsteps of rival Barnes & Noble.

Amazon has chopped the price of its 16GB Kindle Fire HD tablet from £ 159 to £ 139, while the higher specification 32GB model is now priced at £ 159, down from £ 179. If users don’t fancy adverts popping up on their lock screens, ad-free versions of the tablet start at £ 149 and £ 169, respectively.

Amazon also cut Kindle Fire HD prices on its US website with the tablet now available to stateside buyers for $ 169, although the firm hasn’t slashed the price of other Kindle devices such as the 8.9in model.

This price cut comes just days after Barnes & Noble slashed the prices of its Nook HD and HD tablets, which are now available from £ 99 and £ 149, respectively.

Amazon has yet to explain the reasoning behind its tablet price cuts. However, as well as showing Amazon’s competitiveness in the tablet market, the discounts hint that the firm could be gearing up to add new products to its Kindle lineup, and with Amazon showcasing the deal on the front page of its website it certainly looks like the retailer wants to get rid of some stock.

Given that Amazon announced the Kindle Fire HD in the US at the beginning of last September, we predict that we’ll be seeing updated models within the next two months.

Amazon was not immediately available for comment. m
