Amazon Prepping Three New Kindle Fire Tablets for Fall - IGN

Amazon has established itself as a top brand in the tablet space over the last couple years, and this holiday, new Kindle Fire models may take another stab at a market heavily dominated by Apple’s iPad. According to a new report from BGR, sources have indicated Amazon is currently at work on shipping three new Kindle Fire tablets by the end of the year.

An updated 7-inch Kindle Fire will reportedly feature a 1200 x 800 resolution display. The current 7-inch Fire retials for $ 159 with a 1024 x 600 panel. The pixel upgrade would thereby improve screen resolution on par with the current Kindle Fire HD. But the upcoming version of the Kindle Fire HD will actually jump to a 1920 x 1200 display. Finally, the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire will bump up to an impressive 2560 x 1600-pixel screen, besting the Retina display of Apple’s iPad.

No pricing was confirmed by the sources, however Amazon is allegedly striving to keep all three Fire tablets at the same price levels as current models. The Kindle Fire HD will apparently receive an aesthetic upgrade in the form of a more “angular” back plate. Power and volume buttons are now moved from the side of the Fire tablets, alleviating issues with accidental presses.

All three Kindle Fire models may launch as early as September.
