Google Nexus 7 2 vs. iPad Mini 2 vs. Kindle Fire HDX Features and Specs Review - International Business Times AU

For people who prefer tablets that are smaller than the standard 10-inch tablets, these three new tablets in the market are now under this category: Nexus 7 2013, Amazon Kindle Fire HDX and the Apple iPad Mini 2 with Retina display.

If put against each other, the iPad Mini 2 comes surprisingly at the bottom of the three. The iPad Mini 2 does not offer image retention and there hasn’t been any change in the colour gamut compared to its first version. The Nexus 7 2013 sports a poly silicon display while the iPad Mini 2 boasts of an indium gallium zinc oxide display. Meanwhile, Kindle Fire HDX offers a Quantum dots display.

After undergoing some tests to find out which one has the best display quality, it appears that even with the largest resolution and ppi, the iPad Mini 2 only has 63% colour gamut of the original iPad Mini. The Nexus 7 2013 boasts of a very impressive display that utilizes the highest LCD performance with low temperature poly silicon (LTPS). This technology actually provides 100% full colour gamut and has the brightest display in the market now.

With an increased 100% colour gamut, the Kindle Fire HDX increases power efficiency as well but the Quantum dots tech is the next big thing and will surely revolutionalize displays for the next five years. It is the first display to produce highly saturated primary colours which are very similar to OLED displays. The difference between the Nexus 7 2013, the Kindle Fire HDX and the smaller 63% of the iPad Mini 2 was still obvious and cannot be missed in the side-by-side viewing test.

The iPad Mini 2 may not surpass expectations that were raised a notch higher because of the Apple iPad Air. The iPad Air offers full SRGB just like the Apple Mac and MacBook Pro. The iPad Mini 2 has deviations in the colours magenta, blue and red. Plus, the reflective display can be disappointing because it only has 30% of the brightness of Nexus 7. Users who want to watch movies and videos on their tablets may want to consider the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HDX which are both worth a look.
