The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 2 looks to be just a few weeks away from being announced with Amazon looking to update their range of tablets to take on the new Google Nexus 7 and the highly-anticipated Apple iPad Mini 2.

Amazon has its Kindle Fire tablets a number of times, increasing the specs on the original Kindle Fire whilst also releasing a new larger Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch tablet.

Since then though rival companies like Asus, Google and Samsung have all updated their own tablets with the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition boasting one of the highest resolution displays on a tablet whilst the new Nexus 7 features a Full-HD display on a 7-inch tablet.

It seems certain then that Amazon will not only be looking to take on these companies but also try and undercut them by offering their newly updated range at a much lower price-point as they always have with the Kindle range.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 2 release date will be October

BGR claims to have a top-level source within Amazon who has not only provided them with specs and images but it has also revealed that the Kindle Fire HD 2 release date will probably be in October, with shipments taking place in early November to mid-November.

This would not only put it right in line to become a product on people’s Christmas lists but it also puts it directly up against the much-rumoured Apple iPad Mini 2 which will reportedly be launching with improved specs and a HD Retina Display.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 2 specs will include a Full HD screen

The same source that gave BGR the release date has also revealed the full specs list for the Kindle Fire HD 2nd Generation reporting that it will come with a 1920×1200 Full-HD IPS display which would make it a direct competitor to the new Nexus 7.

Amazon will also drastically improve the processing power of the Kindle Fire HD 7-inch by including Qualcomm’s new state-of-the-art Snapdragon 800 chip which can currently be found in the LG G2.

It’s believed the Kindle Fire HD 2 will sport a massive 2Ghz quad-core version of the Snapdragon 800 along with 2GB of RAM which would make it one of the most powerful 7-inch tablets available.

It will also feature a front-facing camera, WiFi and the ability to connect to mobile networks and will be available with either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of storage.

The Kindle Fire HD 2 8.9-inch will feature very similar specs in terms of hardware but it will receive a very significant boost in screen resolution reportedly featuring an impressive 2,560 x1, 600 display.

Another spec that will stand the Kindle Fire HD 2 8.9-inch tablet apart from its 7-inch sibling is an 8MP camera on the rear which is a feature that the 7-inch model will not have.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 2 will feature a new design

Whilst it’s important to note that all of this information is merely speculation based on insider-sources it does appear as though the design of the refreshed Kindle Fire HD will be very different.

BGR was sent a selection of images which clearly show that the Kindle Fire HD 2 does feature an entirely new, thinner design option for an angular body with buttons inset along the sides.

From the front it appears as though it’ll look very much the same though, aside from that Full-HD display of course, but from the back, it’s unmistakably a completely new design.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 2 will cost the same as the current generation

Whilst there’s no confirmation on any of the pricing surrounding the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 2 there has been information in regards to the Amazon Kindle Fire 2 which will reportedly be updated along with the Kindle Fire HD.

The rumour suggests that Amazon will actually maintain its current pricing structure of offering the new Kindle Fire 2 at around £ 99 whilst offering the starting model of the Kindle Fire HD 2 at around £ 159, of course to be sure we’ll have to wait until Amazon unveils its new string of tablets.
