The Kindle Fire tablets have been quite popular in the Android world, at one point dominating tablet sales. Their value was incredible, considering that Amazon sold them at loss. However, it has been a while since their release, and you could say that the hardware is getting a bit dated. Luckily, the details on the upcoming Kindle Fire HD tablets have been leaked, along with some photos!
The new Kindle Fire HD series will have a much more angular design around the back, while keeping the characteristic unmarked front. The sharp angles will house speakers at the top back of the tablet, while the sides of the back will have buttons on them. One side will be power and one will be volume. Buttons on the back reminds me of the Moto Xoom days.
In terms of specs, we should see the 7-inch Fire HD blow the Nexus 7 out of the water. The device will have a 1920 x 1200 display, but the processor will be the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 clocked at over 2GHz. That’s an incredibly fast processor for what should be a fairly budget tablet. It’ll also have 2GB of RAM, 16/32/64GB of memory, a front facing camera and Android 4.2.2 defaced by Amazon’s UI.
This model is said to launch in the coming weeks, so we’re excited to see Amazon announce it. Its 8.9-inch brother (with a 2560 x 1600 display) should launch around November. Prices are unknown, but we hope that the price of the Fire HD 2 7 “will be competitive with the Nexus 7 (which goes for $ 230).
