Q. I just bought a Kindle Fire HD for my Dad, but we can’t find Netflix on it anywhere. Is Netflix available on the Kindle Fire? – Elizabeth, Dover, Delaware.

Elizabeth, congratulations on giving your Pop a great gift for Father’s Day. The Kindle Fire HD, which starts at $ 199, can play TV shows and movies from Amazon Prime. It also can play music and games and it can even take photos with a front-facing HD camera and it can deliver video calls via Skype.

But can it play Netflix?

The answer is yes!

But many people like yourself get confused about this when they first purchased the Kindle Fire (Believe me, I know. I get their e-mails.) Unlike some Smart TV devices, you have to fish around to find the Netflix app. In contrast, when you first turn on most Net-connected Blu-ray players, the Netflix app is already on the Home Page of the Internet page.

But with the Kindle Fire, you have to go into the device’s App store and download the Netflix app. To do this, the device must be connected to a wireless Internet network. Once it is, you just click on the Netflix app download button, and within seconds, the Netflix app will appear on your Kindle Home Page. You can then open up a new Netflix account on the Kindle or use your current account.

By the way, Hulu Plus is also available in the Kindle app store.
