Top Adult Summer Reader Gets an Amazon Kindle - Patch.com

The Westborough adult summer reading program’s top winner will earn an additional reading place.

An Amazon Kindle donated by the Friends of the Westborough Public Library is the grand prize in this year’s “Groundbreaking Reads” program, which runs June 24 to Aug. 16, Adult Services Librarian Donna Martel said.

“They register online. They create their own username and password. They don’t have to be a Westborough resident, but they do have to be 18 to participate. They log in the amount of time that they’ve read. Once they’ve logged in six hours, they’re eligible for the grand prize, “she explained.

Registration begins at 10 am Monday, June 24 at the Adult Summer Reading link at www.westboroughlib.org.

The eight-week “Groundbreaking Reads” program is sponsored by the Westborough Public Library, the Friends of the Westborough Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

In Westborough, organizers hope to get 50 people to sign up online this year, up from 40 in 2012, Martel said.

Participants who do weekly log entries of how much they read or listen to books are entered into the weekly drawing of $ 25 gift certificates to the Tatnuck Bookseller and Cafe, prizes that also were donated by the Friends, she said.

The Westborough library also will hold weekly programs in its downstairs meeting room.

The schedule starts at 6:30 pm this Tuesday, with “Purgatory to Podunk,” by Debbie and Pete Lincoln.

The Lincolns are teachers who have visited every Massachusetts community “and put together a slideshow – historical, trivia – about all the different towns,” Martel said.

The program schedule is:

  • Tuesday, June 18 at 6:30 pm: “Purgatory to Podunk,” by Debbie and Pete Lincoln
  • Tuesday, June 25 at 7 pm: by Joe Gallo
